Our OD Field Jacket would've been used on the beaches of Normandy
These are just the "roof" piece that was placed atop of the erected Small Wall tent in order keep the tent cooler during the summer and for extra rain protection
usually when they were operating on land
It's intent was for use by any Army troops needing a heavy-duty cold weather winter garment
All throughout its use it remained known officially in the Army as the OD Field Jacket
