Just a wonderful old carving from a piece of burl wood

The Champion, Boy in Back Yard with Raised Fists and Protruding Ribs, c. 1940s Snapshot pressed metal pillbox 15 1/4" t x 5Lots rolled up in this one for me, from the freedom of backyard play to aspirations toward masculine ideals to the simultaneous joy, assertiveness, and vulnerability embedded in his raised arms gesture and the exposure of chest and jutting rib cage. And the setting composition, fluttery leaves behind him and spiky ones running in a diagonal to frame his leg, is just right. 4 3 8" x 2 13 16". Very good condition.
