Holla Old Fellow Take a Chew, Early 19th C. Lacquered Papier Mache Snuff Box doll chair but then a rounded heart

but then a rounded heart carved out inside

plus some brown paper adhered to him in a few spots (I have not tried to peel it away)--all of which seem to match the soulful

though it is so distinctive and beautifully decorated I think I'd be more inclined to treat it as a design object than to drink out of it--I  might put it to use as a small planter

so am not quite sure of the age of this piece

There is an old fold line down the center

Lacquered Papier Mache Snuff Box doll chair but then a rounded heartI'm so often struck by the playful the use of language on 19th century objects, from snuff to Battersea boxes, and on transferware pottery, too. This snuff box I believe dates to the 1820s or so, as I've found a few other examples with gold text of a similar ilk, and I especially love seeing the use of "Holla" on this one! Pretty fun. 2 7 8" x 1 3 4" x 3 4". Good condition, with a little surface lost on the face, as evident. Great structural condition.
