I love how the design plays with optical perceptions: focusing on the light brown it reads as a series of repeating abstract geometrical patterns
The piece is in excellent condition
has holes all around the perimeter that would have been threaded with twine or yarn in order to keep the slate from banging on the surface of a school desk--thus chalkboards like this are often called "silent" chalkboards
I have not attempted to polish this as I like the patina
though has a bit of a texture on the front of the face

I think of this as a perfect everyday vase to keep on the kitchen counter, filled with whatever is in season. Very nicely made, and just really nice. Signed and stamped on the bottom and dated 1999, it measures 6" tall x 4 1 8" wide and in great condition.
