Lavoisier is shown at a cloth covered table, in the act of writing with a quill pen. His posture is looking upwards to where (in the original) his wife stood; Marie Anne Lavoisier has been omitted from this portrait. Inscribed above : 'David pinxt. W. C. Sharpe. LAVOISIER.
