There is a longish horizontal hairline crack in the wood on the right side and a shorter one above it

Painting measures 13 9/16" x 11 1/8"

the dog faces abuse from people in town

but I'm not sure I've ever seen one executed as an ink drawing like this one

Based on a couple of (super sweet!) hand drawn maps, I believe our Willis likely lived in Port Jefferson in Suffolk County, NY, on the North Shore of Long Island.
