to my eye making this young man seem a combination of sensitive and curious and serious and studious as also as if trying hard to appear confident and self-possessed but really a bit shy and insecture

with minor wax drips in a couple of spots

Plus two men framing it

and not an especially cheerful one I think

Definitely this is an early one as far as American folk art wooden doorstops go; based on the nails and paint and the monochrome, I would think 19th c. Really a beautiful thing. 7 1 2" t x 5 1 8" w x 7" d and in very good aged condition, stable
