Tupper wears a light coat over a dark waistcoat, white shirt and bow tie. A watch chain is visible at the waistcoat. His left hand rests on a walking stick; his right hand holds a top hat. Inscribed in pencil lower left 'M Farquar Tupper F. R. S.' Martin Tupper was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1845. Original: albumen print. ca. 1853
