Each 3" long x 2" wide leaf emerges a nice gold and holds the color well

The mats are topped

red-backed leaves

although it also hits its peak in late March/Early April

We have 6-year-old seedlings in the garden that have now flowered twice

The 18" tall stalks emerge for us in late July with dark pink buds tipped in blue. The spidery flowers open as dark pink flowers with prominent blue petal tips. The foliage emerges for us in October and persists until spring.
